Alexa, this is one of my favorite things you've written. What a powerful tribute to your husband, your marriage, to everlasting love. I love the way you formatted this essay, all the stories and their lessons, most of which made me bleary-eyed because you tell them so beautifully. Thank you for being vulnerable and, through your vulnerability, crafting a heartfelt, inspiring and very real piece on marriage. <3 happy 13 years, by the way!
Alexa! This was so beautiful. I also resonated with it as my husband and I just celebrated our 12th year of marriage, 14 being together. And I have had a few sleepless nights over the mistakes he and I made, individually, and together because we were young and didn't know. But I love that we stuck through it though and I love reading about other couples who have found their way through the tough times, too. <3
Thank you so much, Jade! Congrats on the milestones — it really is beautiful when you can weather the storms together and come out stronger in the end. So glad this piece resonated with you!
Thank you for your honesty, Alexa! Your article really resonated with me. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone when it comes to grappling with intrusive thoughts about what makes or breaks a marriage (especially when we are influenced by online and anecdotal info). I tend to have these intrusive thoughts of, "if things seem too good to be true, it just might be the case," which leads me to over-examine my marriage and relationships for cracks that could potentially lead to failure. However, as you mentioned, it's the small choices that truly shape our paths. We have more control over our relationships than we sometimes believe.
Alexa, beautifully written as always! The insightful stories and the honesty and vulnerability with which you have written about your relationship is so touching. I will be forwarding this to my twin 16-year-old adopted nieces. It won’t be long before they are sitting at college orientation musing over the possibilities of the cute boys sitting around them. I think this describes so well the see-saw of longing and questioning that defines those young years.
I really loved this, Alexa! I'm celebrating 11 years of marriage this year with my college sweetheart-turned-husband and I often marvel at how incredibly young we were when we made all of these decisions, too. I'm grateful for every single one - the ups and the downs - the whole ride has been one enormous gift, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you for putting it all into such beautiful words!

Yes!! I totally relate to the “this must be too good to be true,” feeling! So glad this resonated with you ☺️
