The Distracted Writer by Alexa T. Dodd

Thank you for stopping by! I’m a fiction writer, essayist, mother to three boys, ever-aspiring homemaker, and woman of faith. I started this newsletter to share my thoughts on stories, motherhood, life, and the beautiful, often strange ways that my distractions from writing become my best sources of inspiration. If you’d like to learn more about my writing and publishing, hear my thoughts (and struggles) on parenthood and marriage, and join me as I find words to explore the messiness of life, you can subscribe below!

What Your Subscription Gives You

The Distracted Writer is a (usually!) monthly newsletter that includes reading recommendations, reflections on publishing and writing, as well as anecdotes and advice about parenthood/womanhood/marriage. Starting in August 2024, you can sign up for a paid subscription to receive original pieces of creative fiction and nonfiction as well as writing/journaling prompts. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.

The Distracted Writer is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Thank you!

About Me:

A woman of Mexican and Polish heritage, a native of Texas, and a mother of three, I write stories about identity, motherhood, nature, and relationships. My work was the winner of the Uncharted Magazine Aftermath Short Story Award, the winner of the Puerto del Sol 2021 Prose Contest, and a semi-finalist in the Nimrod Literary Awards. I’ve also had stories appear in Literary Hub, The Florida Review, The Heavy Feather Review, and elsewhere. I am a Tin House Workshop attendee and a recipient of a Hypatia-in-the-Woods residency for women in the arts. I have a master’s in Creative Writing from Texas Tech University and bachelor’s in English from the University of Dallas. You can read samples of my original work at alexatdodd.com.
